1. Background

 (SNEEM) Project aims
to improve nutrition outcomes and strengthen food systems through the promotion
of biofortified crops, particularly Vitamin A maize, across target communities
in Kaduna State.

This is implemented by a consortium of four, (LUTAM
FARMS, Freehearts Africa Reach Out Foundation-FAROF, Dehydrator Hub &
Supertech Food
), Where LUTAM FARMS Stands as Technical Lead-Capacity
building of Farmers.

The SNEEM Project is part of the Joint Action “Business Support Facility for Resilient Agricultural Value Chains,” co-funded by the European Union (EU), the Secretariat of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS), and the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) under the ABF Matching Grant Fund, and implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.

As part of its implementation strategy, the project seeks to
build the capacity of master trainers (lead farmers) who will cascade
knowledge and drive adoption at the grassroots level. Integrating Climate-Smart
Agriculture (CSA)
into the Vitamin A maize value chain is critical to
enhancing resilience, productivity, and sustainability.

To achieve this, the project seeks to engage a qualified
consultant to design and facilitate a Training of Trainers (ToT) for
selected master trainers.

2. Objective of the Assignment

The overall objective is to strengthen the technical and
facilitation capacity of master trainers to effectively promote and support the
adoption of Climate-Smart Agriculture practices within the Vitamin A maize
value chain
.

3. Specific Objectives

The consultant will:

  • Lead the
    Development of a comprehensive ToT curriculum integrating CSA and Vitamin
    A maize value chain practices, including entrepreneurship component: (costing,
    record-keeping, marketing, decision-making)
  • Facilitate
    participatory and practical training sessions for master trainers
  • Equip
    participants with skills to cascade knowledge to smallholder farmers
  • Integrate
    leadership, gender-sensitive, nutrition-sensitive and adult learning
    approaches . whereas 50% women, whereas 50% youth  
  • Provide
    tools for monitoring farmer adoption and behavioural change

4. Scope of Work

The consultant will be responsible for:

A. Training Design

  • Develop/adapt
    training modules on:
    • Climate-Smart
      Agriculture principles
    • Good
      agronomic practices for Vitamin A maize
    • Soil
      health and water management
    • Post-harvest
      handling and value addition
    • Nutrition
      education (Vitamin A benefits)
  • Prepare
    training materials (manuals, presentations, job aids)

B. Training Delivery

  • Facilitate
    a 5 day Training of Trainers workshop
  • Apply
    adult learning methodologies and participatory approaches
  • Conduct
    practical demonstrations where applicable

C. Capacity Strengthening

  • Train
    participants on:
    • Facilitation
      and communication skills
    • Farmer
      engagement and extension methods
    • Behaviour
      change communication (SBCC)

D. Monitoring & Reporting

  • Develop
    simple tools for tracking adoption
  • Administer
    pre- and post-training assessments
  • Submit
    a comprehensive training report

5. Deliverables

The consultant is expected to deliver:

  • Inception
    report and training plan
  • Training
    curriculum and materials
  • Facilitation
    of ToT workshop
  • Pre-
    and post-training assessment results
  • Final
    training report (including recommendations and participant evaluation)

6. Duration of Assignment

  • Total
    duration: 10–15 working days
    • Preparation:
      3–5 days
    • Training
      delivery: 5 days
    • Reporting:
      2–3 days

7. Location

  • Kaduna
    State (specific training venue to be communicated)

8. Required Qualifications and Experience

The applicant can either be an institution or an individual.

The consultant should possess:

  • Advanced
    degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Environmental Science, Rural Development,
    or related field
  • Minimum
    of 5–7 years’ experience in:
    • Climate-Smart
      Agriculture
    • Farmer
      training and extension services
    • Value
      chain development (preferably maize or biofortification)
  • Proven
    experience in facilitating Training of Trainers (ToT)
  • Strong
    knowledge of nutrition-sensitive agriculture is an added advantage
  • Experience
    working with donor-funded projects (GIZ preferred)
  • Excellent
    facilitation, communication, and report writing skills
